Updates:

(1) Fowler wins a second Sunnehanna. Nice story by the guru of college golf, Ron Balicki over at Golfweek on the week that was for Rickie. Wouldn't be surprised if he makes the cut at Torrey, by the way.

(2) Scott has a broken finger but will play anyway. This is where an agent (I still don't think he has one) might tell you to think that one over. Wouldn't be surprised if he misses the cut at Torrey.

(3) Troy Merritt, who won seven tournaments this year for Boise State University and finished this season with a 69.53 scoring average has signed a management agreement with Gaylord Sports Management. Player Manager Peter Webb will handle Merritt's business affairs.

(4) Geoff Shackelford will be spending the week detailing the course set-up at Torrey Pines. Sounds like this week will be a good one.

It is about time the USGA changed the pairing system. This new system using world rankings has already excited golf fans and is certain to attract more viewers. I love golf but I would usually not watch until Sundays because that is when the "good" pairs or the better players would still be around. Having Tiger and Phil play together on Thursday and Friday will only get me more interested in the early rounds. Tiger besides being the best golfer and the richest American athlete, he is the one who's every word or lack of words (golfweeks noose cover story) is so highly criticized, deserves every minute of his air time on the course. These pairings are a smart way to excite the golf world and bring out the best in athletes like Woods and Mickelson. I expect Tiger to show up his critics and finish high if he does not win it all. Great article, Thanks!
