UPDATE: PHOENIX -- Shaquille O'Neal will lose his special deputy's badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center's use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in 2006 and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse later that year.

"I want his two badges back," Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they're fired. I don't condone this type of racial conduct."

I agree that Kobe should laugh it off and have W + K and Nike create a viral campaign comparing the Kobe legacy to Shaq, while still plugging the "Hyperdunks."
BTW when is the last time Shaq had a shoe (that sold!) lol

"I'll slam you harder than Barkley did..." -Skills

It's funny how the different media outlets are taking this. If you know the culture and the person then you know this is all in fun.... albeit at Kobe's expense. If Kobe was smart he'd do the same thing but clean it up. If I remember correctly, Kobe went further in the playoff... oh and he was actually ASKED to play on the olympic team... Shaq on the other hand didn't get an invite.

It's all fun and games in my opinion.

This is nothing. This is just Shaq having fun. Many things worse than this are said behind closed doors and on the court. Just because he says stuff like this in a freestyle rap doesn't mean he actually is out to get Kobe.

Funny thing is this is probably the worst thing he has done, at least that we know about. All in all, a decent role model for kids.

I do not feel that it is an unfair presumption to conclude that Shaq was either drunk, high or both. However, while making over 20 mil this past (and next) season may soften the blow, I think that is still a little bitter after the Suns made an early playoff exit. Shaq probably assumed that his presence in Phoenix would make them the team to beat in the West, not the team that got beat. Notwithstanding all of this "baggage," I would still chalk all this up to "Shaq being Shaq."
