December Baseball

Dec 16th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, MLB Players, MLB Teams, Other Categories

While there is no baseball actually played in the month of December, the GMs and agents sure have a grand old time trying to do best for those that they represent.  General Managers have the duty of finding the right pieces to the puzzle that will make their teams successful at the lowest price possible.  [...]

So, You Want To Be An Agent? The Entourage Effect

Dec 4th, 2008 | By Zak Kurtz | Category: Agent Terms, Entertainment, Lead Story

Most of you are familiar with the hit HBO series Entourage. The show is based on the experiences of Mark Wahlberg as an up and coming movie star coming from Boston to Hollywood. Wahlberg is represented in the series by movie star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier). Wahlberg said that the idea for the show came [...]

The D-League

Nov 7th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, NBDL, Other Categories

The most difficult league out of the big four to have a client in definitely has to be the NBA.  Roster sizes are small and there are only two rounds of draft picks per year.  Second round picks are not even guaranteed a contract.  Many leagues overseas have given players an extra opportunity to show [...]

MMA Fighters Yearn For Competition

Nov 5th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, Lead Story, MMA, Ultimate Fighting

With EliteXC officially out of the fold, what does the current landscape of Mixed Martial Arts fighting look like?  How will it affect the looming entrance of sports agents into the mix?  Urijah Faber (pictured right), subjectively known as the top fighter in the WEC (owned by the same company that owns UFC), is safe [...]

The Moral Clause

Sep 16th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, Contract Negotiation

If a couple years ago most player contracts contained moral clauses, you better believe that in the wake of the Michael Vick case, almost every athlete will encounter such a clause when signing a deal with a team and/or sponsor.  The clause often gives the team or sponsor the right to terminate the contract and [...]

Expected Batting Average

Sep 11th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, Contract Negotiation, MLB Players, Performance Analysis

Your baseball client’s contract is about to expire and you and your interns are crunching numbers to make sure that he is properly valued in the upcoming negotiations with various organizations.  This client is a position player, so your standard statistics of batting average, home runs, RBIS, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage will be computated [...]

Boras, A Good Guy???

Sep 10th, 2008 | By Paul Schackman | Category: Agent Terms, Contract Negotiation, MLB Players, MLB Teams

Last October, agent Scott Boras and slugger Alex Rodriguez made news when Boras announced that Rodriguez would be opting out of his contract.  Boras was ridiculed for the timing of the announcement and Rodriguez was portrayed as just another greedy player wanting more money.  The majority of Yankee fans could care less if Rodriguez returned [...]

More NFL Games

Aug 25th, 2008 | By Zak Kurtz | Category: Agent Terms, NFL Players, NFL Teams, Other Categories

With all the hype of the Brett Favre trade and NFL preseason games in full force, many of us are excited and can’t wait for the regular season to start. Some of you, like myself, may be thinking, why are there so many preseason games? We only get to see the starters for a quarter, [...]

Vegas-Style Baseball Slots

Aug 25th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, Contract Negotiation, MLB Players, MLB Rules, MLB Teams

You put in a quarter, pull the handle, and hope for the best. You may end up with the jackpot, but odds are you are going to fall victim to the law of averages. Vegas-style slots are set up so that more often than not, you will walk away without that quarter or [...]

The Waiver Wire

Aug 18th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, MLB Players, MLB Rules, MLB Teams, Other Categories

Every year, major sports media outlets make a huge deal out of the MLB trading deadline.  But is the coverage of the deadline overblown?  Once July 31st passes, teams officially are no longer allowed to make formal trades with other clubs; however, every front office is well aware of the month of August, also known [...]

Aug 12th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, Contract Negotiation, NFL Players, NFL Teams

Can’t wait to see what the Brian Westbrook contract looks like.  We are talking about a guy who is being talked about as being a potential number two overall pick in many fantasy football drafts this year.  He is already on his third agent since joining the NFL and seems to like his new agent [...]

Should Rosenhaus Give Ocho Cinco “The Talk?”

Aug 6th, 2008 | By Zak Kurtz | Category: Agent Terms, Contract Negotiation

This summer we heard a lot from Chad Johnson talking to the media.  Shoot, we always hear a lot from Johnson, but this summer it was about him wanting to be traded.  Jeremy Shockey complained to the Giants much like Chad has, and Shockey wound up in a Saints uniform.  So why hasn’t Ocho Cinco [...]

College versus Pro: The decision is personal

Aug 1st, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, Colleges, Lead Story, MLB Players, MLB Teams, Performance Analysis, Recruiting

Today is the first day of August.  Fall approaches, but so does the signing deadline for teams to lock up players that were selected in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft.  We are only fourteen days away from knowing which unsigned players will be returning/first going to college and who will forgo the college experience in [...]

Who Wouldn’t Want To Be CC Sabathia’s Agent?

Jul 29th, 2008 | By Zak Kurtz | Category: Agent Terms, Contract Negotiation, MLB Players, MLB Teams

Instead of waiting until the team came home to meet his new teammates, Sabathia and his agent, Brian Peters of Legacy Sports, decided he should meet the Brewers on the road and hang out with them in the dugout. That initial meeting must have gone great, as CC has now helped lead the Brew Crew [...]

The Guillory Effect

Jul 16th, 2008 | By Zak Kurtz | Category: Agent Terms, Colleges, High School, Recruiting, Sports Business

Besides the NBA Draft, the summer is not looked at as a time to watch Men’s basketball, except if you’re an agent or “runner” like Rodney Guillory. If you have not heard the name Rodney Guillory before, then here is a brief recap. Guillory was said to be the “runner” between BDA Sports Management and [...]

MLB Free Agent Compensation

Jul 14th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, MLB Rules, Other Categories

I have mentioned it briefly in the past, so I will bring it up again.  Paul DePodesta (of fame from the book, Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game), has his own blog.  It’s called, It Might Be Dangerous… You Go First.  DePodesta is definitely a blog maverick (sorry to steal the phrase from [...]

NBA Draft Early-Entries Are Established

Jun 17th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, NBA Players, Other Categories

Perhaps you checked out the new Dynasty Newswire? Yesterday, Austin Walton posted his thoughts on which early entries would definitely stay in the 2008 NBA Draft, who he believed should stay, and who would benefit most from pulling out and going back to school for at least another year. It looks like a [...]

Preparing For The MLS Mid-Season

Jun 10th, 2008 | By Max Eppel | Category: Agent Terms, Soccer, Sports Agents

There are two times each year when soccer Agents undertake most of their business - during the Transfer Windows. Each country is permitted by FIFA, soccer’s world governing body, to promulgate two such periods and it is during these stipulated times that players can be bought and sold or loaned from one club to [...]

This NFL CBA Talk Could Take A While

Jun 9th, 2008 | By Darren Heitner | Category: Agent Terms, NFL Players, NFL Teams, Other Categories, Retirement

We would all be acting ignorant if we were to take at face value what the higher-ups in the NFLPA are spitting at us: that increasing rookie salaries is not one of the main issues of pending talks between the players and owners and instead one relevant issue among many. Yes, there are many [...]
