I was watching an episode of “Hard Knocks: Training Camp With The Dallas Cowboys” when I saw a remarkable thing. Adam Jones, the Cowboys cornerback and punt returner was catching punts during practice, but after he caught the punts he did not drop the footballs. At one point he had five footballs in his hands before he was able to haul in the 6th ball. Catching and holding onto six balls at the same time takes some talent and Pacman must have practiced this sometime before, maybe sometime during the past year he had off from the NFL?

Wide receiver Patrick Crayton then attempted Jones’s 6-Pac challenge and only made it to four balls. He tried it later in the week and was able to match Pacman’s total of 6. Crayton’s first attempt proved that Adam Jones must have practiced this trick many times before bringing it out in Dallas. Pacman caught his six balls easily and smoothly while Crayton looked stressed.

This episode was full of Pacman coverage. It showed Adam Jones guarding T.O. real tough and how they were matched up together on a majority of the routes. The battles were heated and both had some impressive plays. TO claimed to have gotten the better of Jones thus far.

I’m glad that we are able to see Dallas practice and get a look at their preseason routine on T.V. Watching Kansas City in training camp last year on T.V. was interesting, but Dallas has a lot more flair and fun. Many great players battle during the practices. I believe that this type of competitive play in practice makes all of the players better and the helps the Dallas organization. Going against the best in practice every day not only allows back-ups to learn from the best but it gives others the opportunity to rise up and play at the level of Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, Jason Witten and Marion Barber.

With the Cowboys no hitting policy in practices, the TO coverage and Pacman’s six-pac routine were the most entertaining things I saw during the episode. I was going to post a link to a YouTube video of the act, but the NFL took it down.

After the whole Tim Donaghy scandal, it would be smart if athletes decided to stop gambling, at least for a while. Since the Donaghy story broke, we have heard about Charles Barkley and Adam Jones (formerly known as Pacman) getting sued by Las Vegas casinos for not paying their gambling bills. This week we now hear that Alonzo Mourning is also charged with having an unpaid bill at a Vegas casino.

Barkley has been quoted saying that he [Charles] has a gambling problem, but he has the money to afford it…another great Barkley quote. Zo apparently owes $50,000 to the same casino that Barkley owed his money. However, reports say that Zo’s debt was not from casino gambling but from reserving a dining room for his charity during last year’s all-star break.

Although Zo might not been in Vegas gambling away his money, why do he and other athletes not pay their bills? It only costs them more money and hassle in the long run by running away from debt. This gives the athletes a bad image in the media and can hurt their careers.

If they want to keep their gambling habits out of the media and not under the microscope, athletes should pay their checks and avoid going to court. These athletes are not bums like Tim Donaghy who have much less money and make deals with the Mafia. They could easily pay their bills and should do so before they leave Vegas. As the amended saying goes, what happens in Las Vegas should stay in Las Vegas.

As the Adam Pacman Jones saga continues and teams are weighing whether to acquire him or not, it is time to breakdown and analyze this move. The rumors are the Tennessee Titans are looking for a 4th or 5th round pick in return for Jones.

Americas team, the Dallas Cowboys, are considered the front runners for Jones’ services. It was reported that the main issue holding this trade up is the PR hit Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will take. Jerry Jones has been known for acquiring troubled and controversial players in the past, most notably Terrell Owens and Tank Johnson. While Pacman Jones is in a league of his own in regards to legal trouble, this is a move the Cowboys must make.

Pacman has had his fair share of trouble in the past, but he is still a dynamic playmaker on the field. Troubled players have a long history of getting second chances: Lawrence Phillips, Tank Johnson, Ray Lewis, and Chris Henry just to name a few.

I believe now is the right time to make a trade for Jones while the competition for him is minimal. Jerry Jones knows that once Pacman is reinstated, the demand for Pacman Jones will be much greater.

The risk-reward for Adam Jones is far too great to pass up, especially for Jerry and the Boys. The Boys will give up a late round pick, sign Pac Jones to a very, very team friendly contract and will have one of the top off-season moves for the 2008 season. In the few interviews I have seen, Adam Jones really seems passionate about playing for the Cowboys and I think a change of scenery could benefit Pacman tremendously. It is rare that we see players get into trouble during the season, so even if Pac is his same old troublesome self, worse case scenario is the Cowboys give up a 4th or 5th round choice for one full season of Pacman. Still, I believe the reward for Jones’ services far out-weigh the risks.

The reward is that it will shore up a shaky secondary and it will allow the Cowboys to use their two first round choices on a wide receiver and a running back. Whether you like the guy or not, he is a Pro Bowl caliber player. All in all the acquisition of Adam Pacman Jones will make the Cowboys defense better, the special teams stronger, and dramatically affect how the Cowboys can work the draft.
