Kevin Grant #30 Akron University

Dynasty Football 2009 NFL Draft Prospect

Kevin Grant is a 6′2 250-pound senior inside linebacker for the Akron Zips. He led the Zips’ in tackles this past season and possesses an uncanny ability to find the football. Kevin’s extreme dedication and leadership allowed him to play and start in ALL forty-nine Akron football games over the past four years. Kevin truly is half man, half machine.

Growing up in Herndon, Virginia, Kevin attended Herndon High School, where he was a two-sport athlete playing football and basketball. As a senior, Grant Earned first-team all-district, all-region and All-State. He was also named to the 2003 George Michael “Golden 11″ and honored as the Defensive Player of the Year for his district and region. Upon leaving high school, Grant broke the Herndon single-season tackle record with 139 stops in 2003.

He decided to take his studies and athletics to the University of Akron Zips. While Virginia Tech and many other great institutions were looking at Kevin’s talents, he ultimately chose Akron.

He took a redshirt the 2004 season, until his redshirt freshman season in 2005, when he started in all 13 games at the bandit position in the Zips tough defense. By the end of the season Kevin was fourth on the team in tackles with 73 and ranked third in sacks with 4.5. He recorded a season-high seven solo tackles at Middle Tennessee State, and finished with eight total stops on the night. He was honored as a third team CollegeFootballNews.com Freshman All-American and The Sporting News Honorable Mention Freshman All-American team and ended the season earning the Harry “Doc” Smith Award as the top freshman on the Zips squad.

After an impressive redshirt freshman season, Kevin The Machine Grant did only better in his 2006 sophomore campaign. He started all 12 games at middle linebacker and ranked second on the team with 87 tackles overall, one shy of team leader John Mackey’s 88. He was tied for second on the team with eight tackles for losses. The Machine continued his consistency in tackling and ranked 22nd in the MAC with an average of 7.2 tackles per game. He had an impressive day at Kent State, earning a career high 15 tackles, including career-high eight solo stops. KG ended the season as the defense’s Most Valuable Back (Linebackers and Secondary) by the Akron coaching staff for the 2006 season.

The following season Kevin showed his toughness and dedication all year long, leading the team on defense starting and playing in all 12 games. He ranked third on the team with 74 stops. The machine recorded 11 tackles at Indiana, and had double digit stops with 10 at Bowling Green, leading all Zips. Kevin anchored the defense and had at least six tackles in a game eight times and at least one tackle for loss in four of Akron’s last ?six games, including two each at Buffalo, at Bowling Green and at Miami. After the end of the 2007 season he was rewarded for his hard work and leadership by earning third team All-MAC from the league’s coaches.

Prior to the Zips 2008 season Kevin was tabbed preseason second team All-Mid-American Conference by Athlon and was nominated as a captain on defense. When the season got underway the true terminator came out in Kevin as he continued to lead the team playing and starting in every game and recorded a team leading 85 tackles including 50 solo stops. Kevin additionally led the squad with 8.5 tackles for loss and with 4.0 sacks. Grant amassed 319 tackles in his career, making him 18th-best among active NCAA players. He earned 36.0 career tackles for losses putting him 21st among active NCAA players. The machine ranks in the Top 25 in tackles and tackles for loss in the NCAA.

The Machine amazingly started and played in ALL 49 games during his collegiate career and was donned captain during his senior season. This shows that he has a lot of leadership abilities and is mentally tough to play throughout the entire year. At the NFL level, the seasons are longer and the games are much tougher. Kevin’s stats show that he has what it takes to stay healthy for an entire season, physically and mentally; something that many amazing college players cannot claim (Knowshon Moreno, Chris Wells, Percy Harvin). With the assets he already has along with his continued drive to improve his speed and overall abilities, Grant has tremendous upside. Kevin’s consistency and determination on and off the field will make him an asset to any NFL team.

We are extremely excited about the addition of Kevin to the Dynasty family. Go ahead and check out his new website: http://dynastyreps.com/grant/

Rulon Davis #94 California Bears DE
Dynasty Football 2009 NFL Draft ...

Rulon Davis #94 California Bears DE

Dynasty Football 2009 NFL Draft Prospect

Rulon Davis, son of Sylvia and Lorenzo Davis, is a 6′5, 281-pound, senior defensive end for the California Golden Bears. Rulon has great size, football instincts, and intelligence and has matured well beyond his years.

Growing up in San Diego, CA, Rulon attended Charter Oak High School in Covina, California in 2001, where he played on the offensive line. After high school, he served in the Marines for more than three years. He was an avionics technician in the Marines, where he matured and learned about leadership, preparation and teamwork, all of which are qualities that he brings onto the football field. Once his three years as a Marine were up, Davis was sent to Iraq for a six-month tour of duty.

Upon arriving back on American soil, Davis was anxious to get back to playing football. Rulon attended and played for Mt. San Antonio College as a freshman in 2004. He helped Mt. SAC’s defense earn a No. 11 ranking in California, giving up only 251.9 yards per game. Rulon “the beast” had 32 tackles and 16.5 sacks as a freshman on a 10-2 team that advanced to the second round of postseason. Despite sitting out much of his next season, Rulon was still rated as the 21st best junior-college prospect in the country by Rivals.com in 2005.

Rulon ultimately decided to stay close to home and attended the University of California-Berkeley where he double majored in Sociology and African-American studies along with accumulating many football accolades.

In his first season as a Bear, he competed in six games before missing the last half of the season due to illness and injury (bone bruise in leg). Davis recorded five tackles, including three against Arizona State where he also had a half tackle for loss.

The following season, Rulon was penciled in as a starter at defensive end and a key contributor on defense. By the end of the season he tallied 16 tackles with three for loss, including 1.5 sacks, despite missing seven games throughout the season with a foot injury. After missing four early games, Davis made an immediate impact upon his returned against Arizona State and recorded three tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble, before leaving the game with a knee injury and missing the next three outings. Davis recorded a sack on his first snap and forced a fumble with his second sack, setting up a 13-yard touchdown return. Rulon returned against Stanford and tallied three more tackles, one for loss to help Cal win and take back the traditional axe. He showed his desire and determination to get healthy and get back to dominating on the defense line.

“The Beast” recorded the top vertical jump of all-time for a Cal defensive lineman at 34.5 inches. He continues to impress coaches and scouts and is a leader on a strong Bears defense.

Overall, Rulon is an extremely mature and talented athlete. He has superb size and physical features that go great with his quickness off the line. Rulon’s Marine service has allowed him to mature beyond that of a normal college football player. His 40 times range from 4.9-5.2, which he will improve with training, while his numbers in the weight room remain stellar. Davis put on a big performance in the Emerald Bowl, showing that he is one of the top DE’s in college football this season. He was hurrying Jacory Harris throughout the game, totally interrupting Miami’s pass offense. Rulon is viewed as one of the top 40 Defensive Ends in the 2009 Draft class, and will rise up the ranks as teams notice that his injuries are behind him, he is physically fit to play at the next level, and has a wonderful character. He also has tons of experience playing in a 3-4 scheme, so teams that line up in such a defensive formation should be high on Davis.

We are extremely excited about adding Rulon to the Dynasty family. Go ahead and check out his new website: www.RulonTheBeast.com.

Congratulations to Dynasty’s Football Division Director, Matthew Watkins. He received an envelope in the mail on August 14, 2008 notifying him that he had successfully passed the 2008 NFLPA certification exam. It was only two weeks ago that Watkins bitched about the trickiness of the exam on the Dynasty Newswire.

Although the representatives of the NFLPA assured us that the exam was straight forward and they were not trying to trick us, this exam was very tricky and the authors were anything but reluctant to take cheap shots at us and left all of their tricks on the table.

For all of you future testees, the actual material, while voluminous, is not very difficult if you put the time in to understand it. However, expect the unexpected and be ready multiple curve balls and red herrings that are out there to cause confusion.

Well now you have a much tougher job ahead of you: running Dynasty’s football division. Congratulations Matt. I hope that we make Dynasty’s football division extremely successful by the completion of the 2009 NFL Draft.
