It’s time for the NFL Combine. I will be watching the festivities from the comfort of my couch in Florida. I have no reason to be there, so why travel to a place even colder than Gainesville? It is currently in the low 30s here. Spring Training games are about to start, and I cannot wait to see my clients in action. I will be making my rounds in Florida, while Bryan Swalley will head to Arizona at the end of March to visit all of our guys on the West Coast. We have recently been approached by a lot of Major League Spring Training talent who are quite interested in Dynasty. I love how quickly the Dynasty brand is spreading in a positive light, and I thank each and every one of you who are ambassadors for our company. Jason Belmonte got 2nd place in a tournament last week and hopes to do some more damage in the U.S. Open tournament this week. That’s my Aussie! Here are some stories I missed over the past week:

Football

If Keels negotiated the deal, he deserves his entire fee [Larry Johnson, Alvin Keels dispute raises new question regarding agent fees].

With Keels, leaves Keels, back to Keels [Agent change could mean Bodden wants to stay in New England].

Baseball

A rare pro-Scott Boras piece [Are Scott Boras and Money Ruining Baseball?].

And I think the 1-year, $8 million deal this late was a great deal for Boras and Damon [Klapisch: Johnny Damon, Scott Boras really blew this one].

I have full confidence that Michael Weiner will represent the players to the best of his abilities [As head of baseball players' union, Michael Weiner seen as departure from Don Fehr].

Basketball

Love the Arn Tellem piece, except I am not sure that the comparison to investment bankers works well [They Earn It].

Sports Agents

It has been a very busy week. After concluding the 2010 UF Sports Law Symposium, it was time to take a day off and relax a bit. Then right back to work. Pete Parise is over in Venezuela representing Puerto Rico in the Serie del Caribe 2010, also known as the Caribbean World Series. He continues to pitch extremely well in important situations. Brandon Brown was not enjoying his move to BC Suduva (in Lithuania), so yesterday we found him a new home in Poland with Kotwica Kolobrzeg SA. We are in talks to add a big name women’s MMA fighter to our client roster and also have been in discussions with a producer who is interested in licensing Buster Douglas’ likeness (in addition to other things) for a potential movie. South Florida has been a blast, and the parties are not yet over. How about UF’s recruiting class? Here are some stories I missed over the past week:

Baseball

Great stuff here about revenue sharing. Also check out the agents leading the 3+ year free agent deals [Early warning for potential labor unrest].

The new agreement will last until 2013 [Officials pass new Winter League agreement].

Basketball

It sure seems like DeBartolo has lost a lot of clients in the past year [Smith looking for new contract with new agent].

#8
Patrick Allen wins two nail-biters in Nevada
The National Bowling Stadium Championship and the H&R Block Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas

#5
Norm Duke fails in attempt to capture fourth straight major
“Duke winning three straight (the World Championship twice, with the U.S. Open sandwiched in between) was one of the most amazing feats ever accomplished in the history of the sport.”

#2
Jason Belmonte quiets critics after receiving Commissioner’s exemptions
“The classy Aussie…looks to be one of the most fan and media-friendly players the Tour has seen in some time.”

#1
Tom Smallwood goes from zero to hero
“Media flocked to the story…can a Hollywood film be far behind? My pick to play Smallwood is another Tom…Cruise that is!”

All of these tremendous bowlers are entertaining sponsorship offers. Contact us, if interested.

The victor was Mike DeVaney, who notched his second PBA Tour title after beating Belmonte 189-170. Belmonte has received a lot of media attention lately, and just unveiled a brand new website: http://www.JasonBelmonte.com. DeVaney, on the other hand, has been struggling just to make it. His story says a lot about his character and his drive to be the best on the PBA Tour. As reported by PBA.com,

“I came in (to the PBA World Series of Bowling) with all the pressure in the world,” DeVaney confessed after his win. “I’m looking at going back home and living on the streets if I don’t make any money here.

“Bowling for a living is a difficult thing to do. To be honest, I lived in my car for two weeks before the World Series started to save enough money to be able to afford to get here,” he added. “My wife and two-year-old son stayed with her parents in a retirement community where only one guest is allowed, so I lived in my truck so we could afford to get here.

“I never had much money as a kid, and what money I have made, I’ve spent stupidly. Sometimes you have to make a lot of mistakes in your life before you wake up. This is a real blessing for me. I’m extremely fortunate to win this tournament and get back on my feet.”

And we are extremely fortunate to have DeVaney as a client. We are so proud of Mike and wish him continued success. If you or your company wants to be a part of DeVaney’s success story, email info@dynastyreps.com.

Since Jason Belmonte entered into his first PBA Tour match last year, he has been the hottest name in bowling. Well known for his unorthodox two-handed throw, Jason Belmonte, has captured the attention of young and old, on a worldwide scale. He has the look, and more importantly the skill, to be an icon in his sport, and has quickly become the new face of bowling.

We were thrilled when we first attained Belmo (Belmonte’s nickname) as a client at Dynasty. He had just won his first title and was well on his way to being named the 2009 Rookie of the Year (a title he earned). One thing that he was lacking was a strong presence on the web. He had a basic website that needed heavy optimization and definitely could have benefited from embracing at least one social networking service. We decided on Facebook, and as of this post, his Fan Page is about to break 3,000 strong. We also decided to team up with Tim Evans, owner of Athlete Web Design, to build a new, interactive, and media-rich website, which I am happy to announce is officially live as of today.

Click here to visit the new JasonBelmonte.com

While the new site is up and open to the public, there are many features that have not yet been rolled out. We are most excited about the “Where is Belmo” feature, which is currently in development. Anyway, go ahead and check it out. Leave Belmo some love in the comments section, and be sure to ReTweet his posts.

Wow, it has been a very long and draining week. But I expected as much going into it. We have been dealing with the MLB Draft nonstop and will continue to work with our guys who were and were not drafted in the coming months. Additionally, we will begin to look at 2010 and beyond to pick out exactly which baseball players we think will fit well in the Dynasty family. Dynasty has also been in talks with various overseas basketball teams about some of our players. They are commanding quite a bit of interest! Jason Belmonte and other Dynasty Bowlers will hit the lanes this weekend in New Jersey for the GEICO PBA Team Challenge. Check out live updates at Belmo’s official Facebook Fan Page. Here are some stories I missed over the past week:

Sports Business

Federer has a lot going against him, yet he still wins…moreso on the court than off of it [Off The Court, Federer Is Trumped].

Football

Apparently there was no violation of Alabama’s sports agents law [Alabama AG closes Smith case].

Basketball

Been a while since we last did a Dynasty Notes column (8/25/08 to be exact), so here we go…

Baseball

Dan Leatherman – Last night, he picked up the win for the Potomac Nationals. His final line was: 3.2 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K. This improves him to 2-0 with a 5.32 ERA on the season with the High A Potomac Nationals. Leatherman has not walked a batter in his last 7 outings, which spans 12.2 innings.

Pete Parise – Parise threw 2 perfect innings (1 K) in Springfield’s loss last night. Parise has now thrown 11.1 consecutive scoreless frames over his last 8 outings and has a 0.59 ERA over his last 10 outings. His season ERA is 2.86 in 34.2 IP (26 K’s). We showed you a powerpoint slide on him yesterday. His stat line has only gotten better since.

Kyle Gunderson – Recently, Hi-A Jupiter placed Kyle on the reserve list. Kyle is healthy and looking forward to returning back to the active list soon. The Marlins put him on the reserve list as a precautionary measure to give his back some rest. Since joining the Jupiter Hammerheads in a trade for Logan Kensing, Gunderson has a WHIP and ERA of 0.90 in 10 IP.

Kyle McPherson – In his last 4 starts, McPherson has 3 wins and 1 no-decision. In the 22.1 IP over that span, Kyle has racked up 13 K’s and only walked 2 batters. His overall record on the year with the West Virginia Power is 4-1.

Ryan Kelly – R.Kelly has provided solid relief for the West Virginia Power thus far. His ERA is sitting at 3.06. When A-Rod was making his way back to the majors with rehab assignments, he could not get a hit off of R. Kelly.

Brendan Murphy – Brendan got off to a scorching hot start with the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League, but has cooled off a bit ever since. He still has 2 HR in 8 games played, along with 6 RBI.

The rest of our boys: Tommy Johnson, Nick Czyz, Ben Billingsley, and Zach Rosenbaum are doing very well in Extended Spring Training and will be on their respective teams’ Short Season A teams.

Bowling

Our latest bowling client is Jason Belmonte. He is currently in his home of Australia making the rounds with the press, but will be back in the U.S. shortly to bowl in the PBA’s Summer Series. We have big plans for Belmo. In the meantime, become a fan on his Facebook page.

Football

Rulon Davis is doing well with the Denver Broncos. The team needs all the help it can get on Defense and Rulon is just the type of guy who can give them that edge they so desperately need.

Andrew Johnson had a very successful mini-camp tryout with the Cleveland Browns, but unfortunately, was not retained by the team. We are now searching for other options for Drew.

Kevin Grant is considering various options, but we still believe that he belongs in the NFL. We continue to find the right fit for the former 4-year Akron LB.

Basketball

We have recently added a bunch of new clients including, Terrrance Woodbury (leading scorer at UGA for the past 2 years), John Gilchrist (former standout at University of Maryland), and Jamarcus Ellis (University of Indiana – named Honorable Mention All Big-Ten). All of them are receiving considerable interest in the United States (NBA/NBDL) and overseas.

Coaches

Been working on a new website. Jason and I have been given important positions in a particular coaches association. More information will be posted in the near future.

Entertainment

Hopefully you know about the new EntertainmentAgentBlog.com. The new site alone, has allowed us to receive more leads for our clients. Additionally, we are starting to move away from being “agents” to our clients, to taking on more of a managerial role.

7:00 p.m. EST tomorrow (Tuesday), tune into ESPN to watch this week’s episode of E:60. As shown above, Dynasty client, Jason Belmonte, will be featured on the program. The trailer alone should be enough to get you interested in tuning in. Here is what ESPN has to say about the segment:

In the tradition of great sports innovators like Dick Fosbury, who revolutionized the high jump, and Bill Walsh, inventor of football’s West Coast offense, a 25-year-old Australian named Jason Belmonte is taking the bowling world by storm with a revolutionary technique in which he bowls using both hands. Belmonte is challenging his sport’s history and redefining what it means to be a bowler. E:60’s Jeremy Schaap chronicle’s Belmonte’s development of the technique, which he began at 18 months of age in his parents bowling alley. Belmonte’s two-handed bowling is now spreading to all corners of the globe.
