Nava, whose contract was purchased by the Boston Red Sox from Chico, a Golden Baseball League team, back in January 2008, has had success since becoming a part of the Red Sox organization.  In fact, he slapped a Grand Slam in his 1st professional MLB at-bat.

Just as Nava did not have an agent when his contract was purchased by the Red Sox, Dynasty client, Pete Parise, was agent-less when his contract was purchased by the St. Louis Cardinals.  Parise graduated the University of Pittsburgh as the school’s all-time leader in hits.  The Slippery Rock Sliders of the Independent Frontier League did not care, and converted Parise into a pitcher.  Roughly two weeks later, in June 2007, Parise became a part of the Cardinals organization.  Parise had a strong chance at being promoted to the Major League team this season, but an injury to his shoulder set him back and eventually sat him down for the remainder of the season.

The path from Indy Ball to the Majors is not an easy road, but it has been traveled, and it will be traveled many more times in the future.  One player to keep an eye out for is another client of Dynasty, Ryan Platt.  Platt actually began his career in MLB affiliated baseball last year, as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers organization.  After being cut in the offseason, we found him a home with the Traverse City Beach Bums of the aforementioned Frontier League.  He’s only leading the league in wins (seven) and strikeouts (82) and is second in ERA (2.20).  Perhaps, in three years, MLBTradeRumors.com will be writing a story about Platt’s perseverance on his way to the Majors.

• Last night, Dan Leatherman picked up his 3rd save of the season. He pitched 2 innings, logged 3 strikeouts, and gave up no hits or no runs to improve his ERA 3.30.  Dan has been on fire as of late.  In his last 7 games, he has pitched 10.2 innings, given up 0 earned runs while striking out 12 batters, walking only 4, and giving up only 5 hits.  He has notched 2 saves in that span of games.  If Dan keeps it up, he won’t be in High A Potomac for long.
• Ryan Platt was not with the AZL Brewers for long.  The 2009 draft pick was just moved to Short Season Helena.  Enjoy the beauty of Montana!
• The site Rum Bunter at FanSided.com, is in the middle of a multiple part interview with Kyle McPherson.  Part I talks about McPherson’s class and the revamping of the State College Spikes.  Part II speaks of the role of Kyle’s father in Kyle’s life and has an interesting tidbit about him at the very end.  Part III will be up tonight.
• Enough about Pitcher U; our position players have been doing well, too.  Rand Smith went 2-4 with 2 runs scored last night for the Jamestown Jammers (Marlins affiliate).  The Jammers won the game by a score of 6-2.  And Tommy Johnson is having a great start to his season.  He went 1-4 with a walk and a run scored last night, and is batting .344 on the year.

Ryan Platt is a 6’1″ 195lbs right handed pitcher out of the University of California Riverside.  Platt finished his senior season in ’09 4-0, with a 4.15 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 65 innings.  In Platt’s first start of the season, he earned the victory by holding the 9th ranked UCLA Bruins to only 3 hits and striking out 8 in 6 shutout innings.

Platt was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 27th round in ’09.  Dynasty now represents players spread out between 8 MLB organizations.  We continue to grow, but if you ask any of our clients, we remain committed to providing each and every one of them with the attention they need.
